Tikkun Olam
Kedem is a Tikkun Olam Congregation, rather than a congregation that has an active Tikkun Olam committee.
Rather than the conventional translation of "heal the earth", we interpret Tikkun Olam as "making the earth a better place for others", so that as well as environmental and conservation activities, we also foster humanitarian activities. To that end, we now have a Tikkun Olam activity associated with each event celebrated by the congregation so that the congregation, and in particular the children, will see that giving is an integral part of celebrating, and that it is part of the life cycle of Kedem.
The committee has instituted ongoing relationships with Kibbutz Lotan and the Asylum Seekers Resource group. For these organisations we continue to raise awareness and funds, as we feel they are both particularly deserving causes.
