Who we are Our Philosophy Kedem stands for Kehillat David Hamelech, the congregation of King David. It is a small, participation based synagogue community that shares Shabbat, festivals and social functions in a warm, informal atmosphere. We have chosen to be a lay led congregation and do not have a rabbi so we all pitch in to run services, organise events and transform a school hall into a synagogue each time. We have a strong sense of Jewish connection, a love of singing, a preference for a fair amount of Hebrew, a strong traditional base and a commitment to equality and progressive ideas. We describe ourselves as a Tikkun Olam congregation, committed to social justice. We pride ourselves on being family friendly and raising children who feel at home in shul and look on our community as an extended family. By the time they begin bar or batmitzvah training our children already feel a strong connection with Kedem.
The executive meets approximately monthly. We hold our annual general meeting after Rosh Hashanah, and the new executive takes over after Simchat Torah.
The committees are always happy to have input from our congregants. Please contact the chair of the committee if you can offer help or suggestions.
